Question

One of my testicles is larger than the other, is that normal I am 19?

Answer

It is great that you are checking your testicles (balls) and have noticed what is happening with your body.

The testicles are smooth oval organs about four cm long and two cm round. They are usually about the same size perhaps with a slight variation, and it is normal for one testicle to hang lower than the other in the scrotum.

If you're concerned that the size of your testicles has changed, you can visit your local doctor, Family Planning or youth clinic for a check-up.

In the meantime here is some general information.

A swollen testicle should be examined by a doctor.

A painless swelling could be due to a hydrocele (collection of fluid), a cyst swelling in a blood vessel or a tumour.

A painful swelling could be caused by injury, bleeding or a twist in the testes. If there is also a fever the swelling could be due to an infection.
