Question

Can my boyfriend and I use a condom if we make love in the shower? If not, which kind of contraception can we use?

Answer

Yes, you can use a condom in the shower. We talked to the people from one of the condom companies about this just to make sure about it.

Their expert pointed out that if the water runs over the top of the condom and it gets very wet before it is used, it may have all the lubricant washed off it. This can mean that it will be uncomfortable for the receiving partner and can cause irritation and soreness. It also means that without lube the condom is more likely to break, which can be dangerous with regard to sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and risk of pregnancy.

If you don't want to use condoms and want to know about other types of contraception, have a look at the list above. Of course, condoms (and female condoms - which could be put in before you get in the shower) are the only methods of contraception which will protect you against Sexually Transmissible Infections (STIs).
