Question

My erection curves up and to the left, I think this is Peyronie's disease from a childhood injury. Sex can be quite painful for me. Are there any treatments to straighten my erection or am I stuck with it this way? (because it is embarrassing as well).

Answer

If you do have Peyronie's, then the curvature and the pain often increase over time, so get an expert medical opinion sooner rather than later.

Your injury as a child may well have contributed to the curve you describe, but for a lot of men there is really no obvious reason for the condition.

Peyronie's disease seems to be becoming more common these days. It is caused by a build up of localised scar tissue underneath the skin of the penis- causing a tender spot or in more severe cases a bend.

This bending is usually more obvious when the man has an erection.

There are also men where Peyronie's has occurred following injections treatment for erectile problems.

A healthy penis comes in all shapes and sizes and a degree of minor curvature is common and could be simply a normal variation.

Your local GP should be able to assist with a referral to a specialist.

Who would then discuss the possible treatment options with you.

The penis can be straightened surgically by means of Nesbit's operation.
