FAQsQuestionI'm in a lesbian relationship and we would both like to have a baby in the near future, but don't know where to go for artificial insemination. Do you have any information? Answer You don't say where you live, but there is a women's health nurse who runs excellent programs about lesbian pregnancy and parenting at Leichhardt Women's Health Centre in Sydney. The phone number is 02 9560 3011 and email address is info@lwchc.org.au Many of the other women's health centres also have lesbian-friendly health services that may be helpful. There are several IVF clinics in Sydney that are lesbian friendly. We can give you contact numbers if you give us a call on Healthline 1300 658 886 ACON (AIDS Council of NSW) also has Lesbian Health Officers who are another possible resource for all aspects of lesbian sexual health. Some lesbians organise sperm donors themselves. It's good practice to be sure they have had sexual and general health checks and that all parties are clear about their involvement in the pregnancy and after the birth. There are resources available to help you with these decisions. If you live outside Sydney you could call us and we will be able to help you with some of your questions as well as look for a women's health centre or IVF clinic in your area. 1300 65 88 86 |
