My baby is three months old and I’m breast feeding. When I have sex it hurts, and my partner thinks I don’t feel the same about him any more.

Answer

When you're breast feeding you may have less vaginal lubrication than usual. This is normal and due to changes in the balance of your female hormones.

This can mean there isn't enough lubrication when you have sex and your vagina will feel dry and uncomfortable. Using a water-based lubricant when you are about to have sex will help.

Talk to your partner about it. Men sometimes believe that the amount of a woman's lubrication (or wetness) indicates her desire or willingness to have sex, and therefore her feelings towards him.

They may not understand that a lack of lubrication does not necessarily mean a change in a woman's feelings, or a loss of desire, but can be a temporary physical change which happens with breastfeeding.
