Question

Recently my husband and I had sex, and afterwards he went to the bathroom. While he was there, he felt dizzy and fell to the ground. Any idea why this happened?

Answer

This experience is not uncommon for both men and women after orgasm. During orgasm the brain goes through chemical changes that alter both blood flow and pressure in the blood vessels. This reduces blood flow to the brain and can cause feelings of nausea, dizziness and faintness. Some people also get headaches after sex.

After sex, he should take his time getting up from the bed. Resting and breathing normally for 5-10 minutes may reduce the symptoms. He should also have a check-up with his GP to make sure his general health is okay.
