FAQsQuestionEvery time we do anything like hand jobs, I bleed afterwards. And just about a week ago, he fingered me and then I bled afterwards. Should I worry? Then I got my period and the smell was appalling. Now my period is finished I still have a cheesy discharge that smells unpleasant. I don't have any other symptoms (no pain or anything). Could this just be due to him having long fingernails or something? I really don't want to see a GP about this. Answer Yes, possibly long fingernails could cause little scratches or cuts in your vagina. Being sure your vagina is well lubricated before you have any penetration (fingers or penis or anything else in your vagina) could help - either waiting until your own "turned-on" vaginal secretions mean that you vagina is moist and slippery, (this often can take longer than it takes for a guy to get an erection, and like an erection, can come and go, so its quite OK to say you need to stop for a while) - or using some Wet Stuff or Sylk or KY gel or some other water based lube (lubricant). There can be other causes of bleeding after penetrative sex (sex with something in the vagina) - like sexually transmitted diseases. So if you or your partner have had sex with anyone else and ever not used condoms you might both need to have some tests to check for these. Sometimes there is an obvious physical reason for such bleeding which could be seen by you having a vaginal examination. You could go to a sexual health clinic, Family Planning Clinic or a youth health clinic for this. The smell of your period and the discharge afterwards sound like they are probably due to an imbalance in the bacteria that normally live in your vagina. Again, the best idea would be to go to your local youth health clinic, a Sexual Health Clinic or Family Planning Clinic. The staff in these places are used to helping people with these kinds of problems, and know that it can be embarrassing to ask about them. They will not judge you in any way. Further reading: |
