Question

In the vaginal ring product brochure, it says that the new ring must be reinserted exactly seven days from removing the old ring. What happens to my contraceptive cover if I am five hours late? For example, I took it out at 7am on the last day of the old ring, and put in the new one at midday on the first day of the new ring.

Answer

If your new ring is inserted up to 24 hours late, there is no problem. You continue to be protected from pregnancy. If a new ring is inserted more than 24 hours late you need to use condoms or avoid penis in vagina sex for seven days. If there was unprotected sex in the previous five days, emergency contraception is recommended.
