How do I arrange a Vasectomy?

There are a number of choices for getting a vasectomy done.

You can visit a GP specially trained to perform a vasectomy. You don't need a referral for this.

Most men are quite comfortable with the procedure being done under local anaesthetic. It can also be done with light sedation if the man feels more comfortable with this idea or if the vasectomist recommends it. Sedation is medication that makes you more relaxed and maybe slightly drowsy, but does not induce sleep.

Alternatively, your local doctor can refer you to a specialist who will usually perform this procedure in a day-stay clinic, a private hospital, or your local public hospital urology outpatient department. The operation can be performed either privately or through Medicare.
