Question

How can my partner and I determine when she is in her fertile time?

Answer

There are a number of methods that can be used alone or in combination to calculate the fertile days in a woman's cycle. These are the:

• Calendar Method
• Temperature Method
• 'Billings' Ovulation Method
• Symptothermal Method (combination of the three above)
• Standard Days Method.

These methods allow users to predict times that they should avoid penetrative sex or use a barrier method as contraception.

They can also be used to assist a woman who is trying to get pregnant, so she knows when she is most likely to conceive.

For a description of these methods see our Fact Sheet on Natural Family Planning: http://www.fpnsw.org.au/sex-matters/factsheets/93.html.
