Question

What types of IUDs (Intra Uterine Devices) are currently available in Australia?

Answer

There are two types of IUDs available in Australia.

The Copper IUDs are small plastic devices that contain a very small amount of copper. The two kinds of Copper IUD on the market in Australia are the Copper T 380A and the Multiload Cu-375. They work the same way, but are shaped differently. The Copper T lasts eight years, and the Multiload for five years.

Mirena is another kind of IUD that contains the hormone progestogen. It lasts for five years.
