Question

I just had imperforate hymen surgery. I was wondering what happens after this surgery. They did it because I had a stiff hymen so that I couldn't have vaginal sex.

Answer

Have you checked with the doctor who did the operation if there is anything special you have to do after your surgery? It would be good to do this as s/he knows your case best and should give you any post-operative information you need.

However, generally the hymen will heal easily after the surgery and no further treatment will be necessary.

As far as having sex goes, you may be a little anxious about this since you might have had discomfort before with penetration (putting a penis, sex toy or fingers or whatever in your vagina).

So you may like to start slowly with penetration - just one finger to start with, then two, then maybe more fingers until you feel ready for anything else. Ask your partner to take it slowly.

Using a water based personal lubricant will help make sure you are comfortable. You can buy lubricants in a supermarket or a pharmacy.
