Question

I am currently breast feeding my eight month old baby twice a day and we had an accident with withdrawal. If I take the Emergency Pill will I still be able to breast feed?

Answer

Yes, the progestogen-only Emergency Pill is the preferred method in this case and it is safe to take if you are breast feeding. In Australia at present this means the 2-pill pack Levonelle, Postinor 2 or Norlevo. See also: http://www.fpnsw.org.au/sex-matters/faq/EC2_20080429.html.

In the product information it says you should consider expressing breast milk for three days after taking the ECP. This is not recommended by Australian Family Planning organisations. You do not need to interrupt your breast feeding.
