Question

When should I expect my period after I take the Emergency Pill?

Answer

53% of women who take the Emergency Pill (ECP) will have their period within two days of the expected date. About 30% have their period up to a week or more early. About 20% have it up to a week or more late.

There are also about 16% of women who will have a non-menstrual bleed within a week of their ECP. This is quite normal, but it is important not to mistake this for a normal period.

If you do not have a completely normal period three weeks after you took the Emergency Pill, you need to do a pregnancy test to make sure you are not pregnant.

You can get these from the supermarket or pharmacy, or go to your doctor or local health clinic.
