Question

In the past two months I have taken the ECP three times. Will this affect my health?

Answer

No this won't affect your health, but you may find your menstrual cycle is irregular for a month or two afterwards.

You need to do a pregnancy test three weeks after you took the Emergency Pill to make sure you are not pregnant. You can get these from the supermarket or pharmacy, or go to your doctor or local health clinic.

The Emergency Pill is great for the unexpected times when you need contraception after sex, but there are other methods available that are more reliable for everyday use. Have a look at our Fact Sheets to find out more about these methods: http://www.fpnsw.org.au/sex-matters/factsheets/index.html.

Remember that the emergency contraceptive pill does not protect you from STIs (sexually transmissible infections.) Male and female condoms will. For more info on female condoms: http://www.fpnsw.org.au/sex-matters/factsheets/52.html and male condoms: http://www.fpnsw.org.au/sex-matters/factsheets/23.html.
