Question

How effective is the Emergency Pill?

Answer

The overall effectiveness rate of the progestogen ECP is 85%.
It is up to 95% effective if taken in the first 24 hours after the unprotected sex. Taken 48-72 hours after unprotected sex, the ECP is 58% effective. There are no figures on the effectiveness between 72 - 120 hours (5 days) after unprotected sex.

Remember, the ECP offers no protection from sexually transmissible infections (STIs).
