FAQsQuestionHow much does the pill cost? Answer The price of medicines in Australia depends on whether the government helps (subsidises) with the costs of the drugs through our Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS). Most Pill brands cost around $5 a month. Some Pills, which are not on the PBS, can cost around $20 per month. In addition to the cost of the Pill, you may have to pay the doctor you see for the cost of the consultation. This cost varies from doctor to doctor, but many doctors will bulk bill (not charge above the Medicare fee) for young women or women with Health Care cards. You'll need a Medicare card to do this. If you are over 15 years old, you're able to have your own Medicare card. To apply for a Medicare card, visit your nearest office. http://www.medicareaustralia.gov.au Most people are happy to see their GP, but you can also go to a Family Planning Clinic or Youth Health Centre and this may not require a Medicare card. You can also buy pills from most Family Planning clinics; there is usually no cost for the consultation at these clinics. |
