Question

I haven’t missed any pills but my period didn’t come this month – should I be worried and could I be pregnant?

Answer

It is unlikely you are pregnant if you have been taking your Pill correctly. See our Pill Fact Sheet for info on pill taking: http://www.fpnsw.org.au/sex-matters/factsheets/54.html.

It is best to do a pregnancy test just to be sure, if your Pill bleed is absent or different in any way from usual. Every method has its failure rate, and other things can interfere with the pill working. If you are concerned, see your doctor.

It is possible to have a bleed if you are taking the Pill early in pregnancy. This is because the Pill causes a 'withdrawal' bleed that generally starts 2-3 days after the last hormone pill simply because you have stopped taking active hormone pills.
