Summary This study is designed to test the effectiveness and safety of a new contraceptive, which can be self injected under the skin once a month. The hormones used are synthetic oestrogen and progesterone. The effects are similar to natural oestrogen and progesterone produced by the ovaries.A similar contraceptive Lunelle, has been approved for use in the USA in October 2000.
 

Who can participate

Sexually active women between 18 and 49 years who desire contraception.If you participate you will be randomly assigned to either using Lunelle or the contraceptive pill Microgynon 30 for 1 year. You must be willing to rely one of these as your contraceptive for the duration of the trial.

What to expect

Participation in this trial will involve ceasing your current contraceptive. You will need to visit our FPA Health clinic at Ashfield NSW on a number of occasions throughout the year. You will recieve free of charge all medications, and a thorough medical and gynaecological checkup. There will be no cost to you for particiation in this trial.
