Summary

Client Understanding of Information Forms for Clinical Trials

The aims of this project are:
  • To describe and analyse the information forms used in 5 clinical trials at the Ashfield clinic of FPNSW
  • Through a client survey and selected follow up interviews to identify the understandings conveyed and received by clients
  • Based on results of the research to recommend strategies for effective development of information forms
This study will use a survey and telephone interviews (Silverman, 2005, 2006) combined with discourse analysis (Fairclough 2003, Halliday 1994) to investigate how clients in clinical trials understand the information forms that they are required to read prior to participating in a clinical trial at the Sydney Centre for Reproductive Health Research, research Division of Family Planning NSW,Ashfield, Sydney. The Ashfield clinic has a linguistically and culturally diverse client population.
