The centre has a reputation internationally for its commitment to a high standard of research into reproductive and sexual health. It has collaborated on many international multi centre trials with reputable non profit organisations such as The World Health Organisation and The Population Council in New York. It was (in collaboration with three other universities in Australia) recently awarded a prestigious grant from the National Institutes of Health in USA, to study problem bleeding in women who use the contraceptive implant Implanon. This grant was the only one awarded to an organisation outside of the USA. The centre conducts clinical trials sponsored by pharmaceutical companies as well as collaborating on research projects with other universities and scientific institutions. The Director of Research Dr Edith Weisberg, was recently made a Member of the Order of Australia for her services to women's health. The Honorary Director is Professor Ian Fraser AO, Professor in Reproductive Medicine at the University of Sydney. In order to complete these important projects the centre requires volunteers.
